Where it all began

Unanima Theatre first began in 2008 as a small community initiative, led by Tracy Radford and Jayne Williams and funded by Inspire Youth Arts, designed to bring local secondary school pupils and adults with intellectual disabilities together to collaborate on a theatre project that reflected themes that were relevant to both groups.

This was a huge success and so began the Unanima journey. This was quickly followed with a joint Arts Council England bid, with learning disability charity Reach, to continue this innovative creative partnership.

The project increased participation, community cohesion and produced amazing artistic achievements that resulted in the development of a community theatre performance of ’Everyday People’, which won an Epic Award from Voluntary Arts England in 2011.
