States of Independence (First Performance)
How can we move from life looked at and enjoyed from a distance to
achieving authentic, firsthand living?
Welcome to ‘States of Independence’. The game where you must
navigate your way through the zones of impediments in order to
find your independent future.
Is it game on or game over?
Join Unanima’s company of storytellers as they take you through
the tensions and messiness of being labelled as having an intellectual
and developmental disability, how this is experienced and how this
affects aspects of identity and cultural capacity, for both the
individual and carer, in society today.
This production was created in partnership with Nottingham
University’s YALLiD (young adults living with learning/intellectual
disabilities) Research Group.
Our thanks go to all the team, especially Dr David Charnock
